Michele Madigan Somerville

Native New Yorker Michele Madigan Somerville is the mother of three, former NYC schoolteacher and former lecturer of writing (CUNY and SUNY). She is an award winning poet and the author of three books of verse. She is currently writing an education memoir. She holds an MFA in Poetics from Brooklyn, College, CUNY, where, while working with Allen Ginsberg and Susan Fromberg Schaeffer, she won three department awards. Her poems have appeared in many journals and her prose has appeared in the New York Times. She is currently a graduate student in religion at Harvard. Chiefly a poet, Somerville writes commentary, analysis and opinion in areas of religion (Interfaith and Catholicism), politics and (Death Penalty, Mass incarceration, Education).
