Michele Kort is senior editor of Ms. magazine, a freelance writer and author of three books -- most significantly, the biography Soul Picnic: The Music and Passion of Laura Nyro (Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin's Press, 2002). She contributes regularly to The Advocate.
Kort, who lives in Los Angeles with her partner and their two dogs, has long written about women's sports, her interest arising from personal experience: She grew up playing ball in the streets and driveways of her San Fernando Valley neighborhood, and competed on UCLA's women's basketball team in the "prehistoric era" before Title IX took effect and changed everything.
