Max Little

Mathematician

Max Little is a mathematician with a background in stats and software engineering. He has developed mathematical algorithms for many scientific problems but he is best known for his work on quantifying Parkinson's symptoms using 30-second voice recordings, displacing expensive in-clinic physical exams. These algorithms detect Parkinson's to around 99% accuracy. He launched the Parkinson's Voice Initiative, a participatory science project which collected over 17,000 voices from around the world, with the aim of developing a test for Parkinson's using the standard telephone network. Among other projects, Max is working to apply these algorithms to the environmental causes of disease, with the aim of complementing genetic studies. He is an Assistant Professor at Aston University in the UK and a Visiting Assistant Professor at MIT.
