New Orleans City Council Member
LaToya Cantrell was elected to the New Orleans City Council in December 2012 and re-elected in February 2014. Before joining the City Council, Cantrell worked as a nonprofit management executive for more than 10 years, where she gained valuable experience in neighborhood revitalization, financial management, economic development and grass roots organizing. Post-Katrina, she led the citizens’ fight to save Broadmoor after it was flooded due to levee failures. Today, Broadmoor is considered a national and global model in post-disaster recovery. Cantrell is the former President of the Broadmoor Improvement Association.
