Justin Moss

Opera Lecturer and Expert

Justin Moss is a resident opera expert and lecturer based out of Miami. A native of San Francisco, Justin Moss attended college in Santa Barbara, California, and after receiving his Bachelor’s degree in 1969, worked for the University Library of the University of California, Santa Barbara, managing the Art and Music Collections branch library. In 1978, he was recruited to join the staff at the University of California, San Francisco (the U.C.S.F. Medical Center) where he held management positions in the Departments of Radiology and later, Medical Record Services.

He entered the opera field professionally in 1981, and has held management posts with the Virginia Opera, Baltimore Opera, and Boston Lyric Opera before joining Florida Grand Opera in 1993. During his 18 seasons with the Company, Mr. Moss has played an active role in the Opera’s Development, Marketing, and Public Relations initiatives.

In 2011, Mr. Moss became FGO’s Director of Broward Operations. In addition to managing Florida Grand Opera’s Broward County activities, Mr. Moss represents the Opera throughout the community and presents informative previews of the operas for ticket holders immediately before all performances in both Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Mr. Moss has served as a judge for the Metropolitan Opera National Auditions on several occasions in the United States and Canada, and has served as a grants panelist for the National Endowment for the Arts’ Opera Musical-Theater and Advancement programs.

He will have been married to Troy Moss, an Art Historian, for 35 years on November 16, 2012, during which time they have pursued their interests in music, art, literature, history, porcelain, and ancient coins.
