John Milewski

Director of Digitial Programming & Managing Editor and Host, Wilson Center ON DEMAND, Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars

John Milewski is a veteran broadcast journalist and communications professional with extensive experience as moderator, interviewer, anchor, reporter, and producer. He currently serves as Director of Digital Programming for the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and as executive producer, managing editor, and moderator of Wilson Center ON DEMAND video. For 20 years he served as executive producer, moderator, and managing editor of Close Up on C-SPAN, one of the longest running news and public affairs discussion programs in cable television history. He also served as host of the award-winning radio and television program, Dialogue, a production of the Wilson Center. The program was syndicated on 200 radio stations nationwide and was televised internationally via the MHz Networks. Milewski is an instructor for The Pennsylvania State University, where he teaches a course on politics and media. He serves as vice president for the Wana Initiative on Conflict and Cultural Dialogue. He is co-creator, co-writer, and co-producer of the initiative’s flagship program, Waziristan to Washington: A Muslim at the Crossroads, an innovative one-man stage show featuring Ambassador Akbar Ahmed. He was part of the team that moved the Newseum to its DC location in April 2008. As Special Programs Manager and one of the hosts of the interview program Inside Media, he was a key contributor to the early programming success of the critically acclaimed museum and is a co-creator of the Reel Journalism with Nick Clooney series. In 2006, he served as interim producer of C-SPAN’s After Words, the flagship program of the Book TV lineup. He is also a freelance contributor to public education programs serving as moderator and consultant for programs produced and conducted by the American Bar Association’s Division for Public Education. As a documentary filmmaker, he has served as executive producer, managing editor, and correspondent for a series of award-winning productions. The documentaries have been recognized internationally through awards such as the CINE Golden Eagle, the ABA’s Silver Gavel, the Columbus International Film Festival’s Chris Award, and the New York Festival’s World Gold Medal and Best of Show Awards. Over the years Milewski has reported on everything from local zoning commission meetings to the first televised town meeting between East and West Berlin residents after the fall of the Berlin Wall. He’s interviewed high school class presidents and Presidents of the United States and covered every presidential election from 1988 through 2004, producing and hosting programs from every Republican and Democratic nominating convention during that period. Milewski is also an accomplished manager having served as Vice President for Outreach and Communications for the Close Up Foundation where he was a member of the leadership team responsible for budget, policy, and fund raising. He was also responsible for national and international communications activities and strategies including print publications and website content.
