Jerry Ehrenwald

Jerry R. Ehrenwald, G.G., A.S.A., A.A.A., N.A.J.A, has held the position of International Gemological Institute (IGI) president and CEO since 1981. He is also president of International Gemological Information, the Institute’s independent appraisal division, and has been since its inception. The information division was established in New York as a source for unbiased appraisals of gems and jewelry – providing appraisals and identification reports, as well as appraisal updates for consumers, retailers, public accounting firms, national law firms and international banks.

Ehrenwald is responsible for IGI’s trade laboratory and the appraisal division of the largest independent, internationally established gem certification and appraisal institute worldwide with bases of operation in New York City, Los Angeles, Toronto, Antwerp, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Surat, Ahmedabad, Thrissur, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata, New Delhi, Dubai, Bangkok, Tokyo and Tel Aviv. IGI has received ISO accreditation in many countries, including IGI North & South America, which is also a certified member of the Responsible Jewelers Council (RJC).

Ehrenwald has the distinct honor of being named senior member of the American Society of Appraisers (re-certified in 1991, 1996, 2001, 2006 and 2011, and will be re-certified in 2016), one of a select few named to senior status in New York whose discipline is gems and jewelry. He is a graduate gemologist and a certified member of the Appraisers Association of America, as well as the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers. Ehrenwald is a member of the Twenty-Four Karat Club of the City of New York, a social club limited to 200 of the most accomplished individuals in the jewelry business. Ehrenwald has also received the United States and Belgium patents for inventing the process of laser inscription of diamonds for identification purposes.

In addition, Ehrenwald has provided his expertise to top-tier news organizations and the district attorneys in Brooklyn and Manhattan, served as a consultant for the US Treasury Department and Congresswoman Cardiss Collins (IL), and appeared as an expert witness in legal disputes.
