Francesca Vietor

Francesca Vietor serves as Program Director for Environment, Public Policy, and Civic Engagement at The San Francisco Foundation, focusing on efforts to improve the environmental health of vulnerable communities, build resilience in the face of climate change, and protect the natural environment. She is also a Member of The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC), where she leads policymaking for the City and County of San Francisco’s water, wastewater, and municipal power services.

Francesca has been a dedicated environmental advocate for more than two decades. Previous political positions include President of the Urban Forest Council, Chair of the Mayor’s Environmental Transition Team, President of the Environmental Commission for the City and County of San Francisco, and Director of the City and County’s Department of the Environment. In 2004, she co-founded 1000 Flowers, a national woman’s voter registration and mobilization effort, which registered and activated over 20,000 women in 47 states. She has previously worked with Greenpeace, Rainforest Action Network, and Chez Panisse Foundation.

Francesca’s past and present Board appointments include Bioneers, Center for Environmental Health, Environmental Working Group, Save the Bay, Slide Ranch, and SPUR, among others.

Francesca holds a bachelor of Sciences degree from Georgetown University, and she lives in San Francisco and Bolinas with her daughter, Chiara.
