Born in Toronto, Canada. Raised in Greek Diaspora, with much time spent in taverns and restaurants. Dropped out of university, bought a one-way ticket to Taiwan, proceeded to travel South America, World. Returned to the University of Toronto, studying Biological Anthropology and Linguistics, focusing on Medical Anthropology with Research in Namibia on HIV/AIDS Transmission and Gendered Violence. Independently began a long term research study on alcohol abuse and domestic violence among Maya K’iché in the Western Highlands of Guatemala (Nahualá, 2005-current), soon after collaborated and developed by the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Received a Masters of Public Health Science, Specialization Epidemiology at Maastricht University, the Netherlands. The ethnographic research resulted in academic publication and a photographic and film component, submitted and accepted to the Werner Herzog Rogue Film School (Los Angeles, 2012). Wrote, Directed, Produced feature length film focusing on the center of the Mayan world in the time leading up to and including the End of the Sacred Mayan Calendar, December 21 2012 www.UnrecordedSpirits.com. Currently involved in producing a film series focusing on film and media artists with physical disabilities and developing Accessibility in Film and Media www.BarrierFreeMedia.com, the Cuban experience surrounding the end of Fidel Castro’s Life, and continuing epidemiological work into the development of Mental Health intervention programs in indigenous rural Mayan communities in Guatemala.
