Debra Levine

Debra Levine is a Los Angeles-based dance critic blogging on artsmeme.

Debra Levine‘s three decades of arts journalism include dance criticism and feature writing for the Los Angeles Times, The Huffington Post, La Opinion, Long Beach Press Telegram, South China Morning Post and Dance Magazine. She was a 2016 Fellow at the Center for Ballet and the Arts at New York University. A specialist in the choreographer Jack Cole, Debra co-curated “All That Jack (Cole),” an 18-film retrospective at The Museum of Modern Art also in 2016. She is a frequent producer and host of screenings and events, at MoMA, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, UCLA Film & Television Archive, Dance Camera West and The American Cinematheque. In 2012, Debra co-hosted, with Robert Osborne, "Choreography by Jack Cole," a full-evening broadcast on Turner Classic Movies (TCM). Debra is the recipient of grants from UCLA Library Special Collections, the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation and the Cecil B. DeMille Foundation. She was twice a fellow at NEA Arts Journalism Institutes. In 2014, Debra was an invited journalist at the Venice Biennale Dance Festival in Italy.
