Blanka Amezkua

Artist

Artist Blanka Amezkua was formally trained as a painter; she studied in Florence, Italy and received her B.A. from California State University Fresno, USA.

Her work and projects have been shown in the United States, Mexico, Greece and Brussels in art spaces such as MoMA-P.S.1, Exit Art, The Bronx Museum of the Arts, El Museo del Barrio, Queens Museum of Art, Towson University, Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts in San Francisco, Movimiento de Arte y Cultura Latino Americana (MACLA), Casa John Spencer, and The Taller Boricua, Melanithros, Booze Cooperativa, Art Base, among others.

In 2008 she initiated an artist-run project in her bedroom called Bronx Blue Bedroom Project (BBBP) where she invited contemporary artist to exhibit in the intimacy of her bedroom. BBBP ran for two years. BBBP’s documentation was showcased in two shows in New York City: Greater New York: 5 Year Review at MoMA-PS 1 and Alternative Histories at Exit Art.

On May 2010 she moved to Athens, Greece and initiated 3///…three walls on wednesdays… She exhibited art in areas lacking cultural spaces-- 3///3 received promotional support from the Mexican Embassy in Athens.
In March of 2012 she began 8 to 8: State of Creative Emergency an invitation for creative minds to create an action that will take place for one day during twelve hours in public space.
