Angel A. Aloma

Angel A. Aloma is Executive Director of Food For The Poor, where he oversees all fundraising and communication initiatives of the international relief organization, while encouraging innovation and cultivating relationships with donors at the highest levels. His professional expertise in the administration of business entities and his experience as a bank auditor has equipped him for the role of assisting the incredible growth of Food For The Poor.

Aloma is a “communicator par excellence” and has become an enthusiastic spokesperson for Food For The Poor. Also fluent in Spanish and proficient in Creole and Patois, Angel is able to convey the message of the mission to our supporters and partners throughout the Caribbean and Latin America, where much of the support is directed. In his 21 years as a teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Angel started a program to feed the homeless in Broward County (MANO) and led numerous mission trips with his students to the Caribbean countries. He is specially attuned to the plight of the poor in our hemisphere and frequently visits those areas accompanied by donors, employees and community and church leaders interested in the mission.

Aloma is a frequent speaker at colleges in the United States, handling the topic of poverty and poverty-related issues, such as justice and peace. In 2010 he presented at the NYC Direct Marketing Association (DMA) Conference in August. In 2011 he presented at the March DMA Conference in Washington, DC, where his talk on sustainers (donors who give monthly or on a regular basis) was named “Best of Show.” Aloma was invited to do an encore in August at the NYC DMA Conference, 2011, where he also took part in a double session presentation on donor acquisition and retention.

Aloma is a member of the Advisory Council of the DMA Nonprofit Federation. He is co-chair of the GIK (Gifts In Kind) Committee at InterAction in Washington, DC and chairman of the Government Affairs Committee of the DMANF in New York City.

Aloma was born in Santiago, Cuba, where he completed his primary education at Our Lady of Sorrows Jesuit School. Reared primarily in Jamaica, he continued his Jesuit education at Campion College and St. Georges College in Kingston. He is a graduate of the University of Windsor in Canada, and received his Master of Science Degree from Nova Southeastern University. Aloma is married with three sons, two nieces who are like daughters and seven grandchildren. He resides in Davie, Florida, with his wife of 40 years, Dr. Denise Aloma, a leader in the educational field. Together they host four generations of their family every Sunday for a noisy, fun-filled dinner.
