Arts journalist, theater critic
Andy Propst, Senior Editor at TheaterMania.com, has been writing about and reviewing theater since 1998 when he founded americantheaterweb.com. In addition to his writing online, his work has appeared in The Village Voice, Time Out New York, Back Stage, and The Sondheim Review.
In addition to his writing, Propst hosted a nightly program on XM Satellite Radio’s XM 28 On Broadway channel, from 2003 to 2008. He also provided 90-second news, feature and review seqments for the channel.
Propst’s involvement in the arts and arts journalism has also extended to serving six years on the Executive Committee of the American Critics Association. He also served as an Obie Awards Judge, and secretary to the committee for three seasons, and he has been a three-term member of the Drama Desk Awards Nominating Committee.
He holds a degree from the University of Chicago in English and, prior to his work as a journalist, was a fundraiser at the New York Shakespeare Festival/Public Theater, working with Joseph Papp, JoAnne Akalaitis, and George C. Wolfe.
